As we welcome another new family into Family Promise, we are counting down the days until Christmas. Social media posts and Christmas carols refer happily to the season as "the most wonderful time of the year." Celebrating the birth of Jesus, it truly is the most wonderful time. But sometimes from a daily human perspective, people struggle to see through the crisis to feel the joy of the season. Struggle. Uncertainty. Loss. Failure. Our role becomes even more vital as we work to show our neighbors their worth, their capability, and guide them professionally as they work to overcome homelessness and achieve stability for their children.
Christmas in Family Promise is a special time. Our host volunteers make guest families' stay special with a Christmas tree, stockings and all of the celebratory touches of home. This year, we will host a special Christmas party for current guests as well as FPGNB Alumni complete with a personal visit from SANTA! Thoughtful community members have come forward to "adopt a family" to provide FPGNB families and recent graduates with Christmas Eve baskets.
But my prayer is that we will remember families in our community year-round; that we will remember that families are struggling, and if we are blessed, we are called upon to bless others. Paying it forward in life is so much more than buying Starbucks for the customer behind you in the drive through. Let's show Christ's love for each other every day, if even in the smallest of ways, and live out this season of giving 24/7/365.
Thank you for helping us change lives, whether it be through a financial donation, a Christmas adoption, cooking a meal, spending a night, driving them to appointments, or praying for their safety and success. Thank you for choosing to be part of our village as we work to end homelessness one family at a time!
