About
We have had our eyes and hearts open for starting a transitional housing unit for quite some time. Earlier this year, a local non-profit offered the use of a space to us to begin this exciting new project. The space is located conveniently to our Day Center and will serve as transitional housing for families who have graduated our shelter program but have yet to find affordable housing.
What is Transitional Housing?
Transitional housing is housing for a defined period of time that fills the gap between shelter and safe, available affordable housing. Affordable housing is hard to come by in the New Braunfels area and often comes with a long waiting list and many barriers. This space will ultimately allow us to serve more families who need our support by freeing up space in shelter. The new building will allow a family the stability of a secure space, the time to save money and continue working on reaching their goals, and easy access to continued coordination with our social worker until permanent housing becomes available to them.
The Plans
This small home will be able to hold two small families, or one larger family. There will be two bedrooms, one bathroom area, a kitchen, and a communal living area.
Financials
Before we begin renovations on this new project, we need to raise an estimated $95,000. We are about half-way there! See below to help us reach our goal and get started!
